MG TB

The TB, launched in 1939 a few months before war broke out, was a TA with a much improved engine which was to prove immensely tolerant of tuning. But only 379 TBs were made before production was stopped and Abingdon was turned over to manufacture of amunitions.

MG Midget MKII

The Austin Healey Sprite appeared first, with its unusual headlamp arrangement giving it a 'Frog-eyed' look. This Mark 1 was followed by the Mark 2. At the same time a companion MG Midget appeared, this being one Mark behind. The Sprite 2 had new bodywork front and rear, and this general body arrangement of 'Sprigets' has been continued.

The Sprite 2 and Midget 1 were introduced in 1961 with a 948cc engine. In 1962 this was uprated to 1098cc. In 1964 the Sprite 3 and Midget 2 appeared, the major changes being semi-elliptic rear springs and wind up windows. In 1966 the Sprire 4 and Midget 3 received the 1275cc engine. In 1971 the Sprite was discontinued.

In 1974, a larger 1493cc engined version of the Midget became available, in addition to the well proven 1275cc engine model. The larger engine is basically the same unit in the Triumph Spitfire 1500.

MGA

First introduced in september 1955, the MGA was a new concept by the designers at Abingdon and was a distinct break from the traditional lines its predecessors. Powered by the 1489cc 'B' Series Leyland engine, the MGA had smooth flowing lines, was well balanced in appearance and was generally attractive and distinctive.

Whilst the body was new, the basic mechanics of the car were similar to the then current MG Magnette Salloon. Initially just the two seater roadster model was available but after a year a fixed-head Coupe was introduced. As a compromise for somebody who wouldn´t make their mind up which model to have, a works fibreglas hardtop available for the roadster.

July 1958 saw the introduction of the Twin Cam MGA. The engine was of 1588cc, had a crossflow design cylinder head with twin overhead camshafts. It was no mean performer giving 108 bhp ay 6700 rpm and consequently the bottom end of power unit had to be strengthened to take the extra stress.
